Summer Madness begins

Our new ‘continually changing’ show has opened and we’re trying out a few new things. Firstly, any artwork purchased in the show will be available immediately. We usually wait until the end of the show so we don’t disrupt the balance of the exhibition and also ensure as many people as possible get to enjoy all the work. However, this time the intention is to continually change the exhibition so we will have a constant curation challenge as pieces are sold and we introduce new artists. Lets see if the dynamic and fresh approach still delivers something coherent!

Our first week introduces two new artists to View as well as showing work from some of our regular exhibitors. The first is George J Harding, a local artist with a unique medium and technique that creates beautiful imagery in deep resin blocks. These scupltural wall-hung pieces are heavy structures but with a sensitive touch to create a magical appeal. We interviewed George to find out about his technique and his inspiration.

Our second new artist is Rico, a painter who’s inspired my animals and their spiritual meaning. The large canvases host a bold, loose brushstroke creating free movement and a finer detail highlighting elements of the key subject matter. The more you look into the paint, the more you see, maybe exposing the hidden spirit of the animals.

We are also pleased to have new work by Damian Daly, whose paintings build on the theme of reducing classical masters to comic-book style painting. This new series includes Damian’s interpretation of strong iconic feelings such as rage and lust.

We have other new artists lined up including different media such as film, photography and oil painting. More about them as they are added to the show. We also welcome back some favourites in Fran Williams, Ann Goodfellow, Hannah Lewis Davies, and Tim Perks plus we have an amazing painting by Ian Francis.

And if you’ve never seen a painting by a shamen then come and see the work of Marianne Hvass!

Summer Madness continues through July and August 2011 at View Art Gallery.
